Learning objectives
At the end of this lesson, the student will be able to:
- Define Spherical Lenses.
- Explain the structure of spherical Lenses.
- Describe the physics of spherical lenses (Plus and minus) to focus light.
- Define Diopter – the unit of the optical power of the lens.
- Describe the power of the spherical lenses.
- Correlate the relationship of Lens power (F) and focal length (f).
About this course
The visual aid includes optical devices such as eyeglasses or spectacles, contact lenses, for refractive errors and magnifying glasses for low vision people which involves various types of lenses. It is normally not thought of lenses but an instrument to view clearly! A lens is just a transparent material with at least one side curved surface. It is important for an optometrist or the optician to have the basic knowledge about spherical lenses and its types. They must be able to identify the type of lenses that is used in different spectacles and why it is used. This lesson will teach you the basics of spherical lenses.
