At the end of the session, the trainee will be able to:

- Differentiate Cylindrical and Sphero cylindrical lenses.
- Explain the principle meridians of a cylindrical Lens.
- Recognize the shapes of astigmatic lenses.
- Describe the physics of astigmatic lenses to focus light.
- Describe the power of the sphero-cylindrical lenses.
About this course
A lens is just a transparent material with at least one side curved surface. It is important for an optometrist or the optician to have the basic knowledge about cylindrical lenses and its types. They must be able to identify the type of lenses that is used in different spectacles and why it is used. This session will teach how the cylindrical and sphero-cylindrical lens will focus light to correct astigmatism.
